Three Greatest Moments In Toto Asia History

The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding its production facilities overseas, and doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. North America was seen as an area of growth for Washlet toilets and bidet seats, in contrast to its "base" markets in Japan and China.

Dhaniram Toto was documenting Toto words to ensure the next generation would be able to read them. Many words were substituted with foreign ones. For instance dui, which is Bengali for verandah, was being used.

Origins

Incorporated in 1917, Toto's beginnings mirrored Japan's development. In the early years of its existence, the company produced goods to meet demand for modern and contemporary urban housing. It was the first tunnel kiln in the country to produce ceramics continuously. It also pioneered the use of automation for production control, which allows for greater efficiency and consistency.

The company began expanding overseas in the latter part of the 1980s to benefit from new markets and sales opportunities. The company created the Cera Trading Company to import and distribute other manufacturers' products to expand its line of sanitary earthenwares as well as plumbing fittings. This strategy helped increase sales and expand the market share of the company globally.

By the 1990s, Toto had shifted its focus on research and development for household appliances that use water. It also redesigned its distribution system to better serve its customers and increase profit. The company also employed the just-in time approach in its supply chain management as well as sales program. This resulted in a greater level of satisfaction with the customer.

Toto has continued to innovate with regard to toilet technology. The most recent toilet features an environmentally friendly, powerful tornado flush. Toto uses recycled water for its manufacturing process, and has a green buying policy. In addition to toilets Toto manufactures faucets and bathtubs and hand dryers that are more efficient in terms of energy consumption than standard models.

The first museum of the company opened in 2015, and it has exhibitions about Toto's iconic products and their development and its group companies (all related to ceramics) as well as the history of plumbing and products like bath units and, in a different gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum even includes a bathroom with the WASHLET toilet, as well as other toilet-related innovations.

Before beginning the formation of Toto members of the group performed sessions with various musicians. Boz Scaggs' album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich and guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather as well as drummers Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also performed on records by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.

Discography

You might expect a band with a name such as Asia to be a prog rock group however, it's actually a fairly straight forward rock band. The group began as a group and recorded two albums - 1979's self titled debut, and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. The group has a wide musical background, but their biggest success was in 1982 with Toto IV.

The album was a major blockbuster, however it did not come without its own set of issues. The record companies placed Toto under pressure to release the top single or they would drop them. Luckily for Toto, they did, with the help of the smash hit single "Africa."

Toto's musical mastery is a result of their previous experience in the music industry, as the band members had been session musicians for artists like Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, and Seals and Crofts prior the group. Their distinctive sound has become the norm for '80s pop, influencing many contemporary artists.

The album begins with a hefty dose of hard rock, with songs such as Running Out of Time and Unknown Soldier showcasing the bands ability to write fantastic AOR songs that slowly work their hooks into you. The album also includes some jazzier, slower tracks like The Little Things and Chinatown. The album concludes with Great Expectations, a song that mixes folk with distortion AOR and could sound like a complete flop, but is incredibly effective.

After Toto IV The band's fortunes changed towards the negative. David Hungate left to concentrate on his solo career and the band had to go through numerous drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the band in wake of drug charges and the group continued to perform as a trio with Michael Porcaro and Steve Lukather.

Despite the turmoil, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation that was not as successful as IV. However, the band still managed to release another chart-topping album in 1992, Kingdom of Desire. This album marked the end of the original Toto lineup and was the first album featuring the new singer, Simon Phillips.

Tours

The band has entertained millions of fans across the globe, and has sold-out shows across Europe, North America and Asia, as well as Australia and New Zealand. The band has a huge repertoire, and its catalog has been played over one billion times on streaming services across the world. The band's iconic music has inspired generations of fans.

Steve Lukather and Joe Williams have developed a deep, colorful friendship that thrives professionally on a worldwide basis. In 2018, the duo celebrated 40 Tours Around the Sun with a wildly successful global tour. The album of the same title ranked 5 on the Billboard 200. The band's latest tour includes their most popular hits, rarely performed live deep-cuts and an assortment of songs from Lukather's and Williams catalogs.

Line-up

The album's third, Turn Back, marked an reversion to the classic sextet style of previous albums and was a more powerful, consistent effort that had an edge that was more pronounced than Hydra. The more edgy sound of the album reflected the maturation of the group, with drummer Bobby Kimball's increased proficiency on the drums, as well as a more confident, mature vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. Keyboardist David Paich's work also was more precise, sharper, and less derivative than previously recorded performances.

After touring to promote the album, the group recorded a live concert in Amsterdam that was released as a two-CD set entitled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. The group released a new studio album a few months after, and went on a tour around the world to promote the album. In this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began exploring old tapes and demos to find songs that had never been recorded before. It was completed in 2001 as a duo album called Then and Now. It was the band's first album that did not contain the single track "A". The album also contained an previously unreleased track titled "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth record, Old Is New was a commercial failure and vocalist Williams was suffering from laryngitis that affected his singing abilities. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming was replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.

Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the founding members of Asia The original Asia members met in England in the early part of 2006 to discuss the possibility that the group could be reformed. The lineup, with the exception of Howe who was occupied with Yes during that time, became Toto XIV. They toured extensively.

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also featured a special appearance by singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
